“Theres no point in releasing a set that isn't the complete score. Should we be grateful for scraps or should we expect not be treated like second class consumers?”

Strange statement. I missed the OST releases and have been desperately waiting for seven or eight years for an official re-release. I’d say what we have in stores right now is a MUCH better offer than illegal bootlegs or insanely priced used CDs at Ebay or Amazon-Marketplace. I’d have bought factory sealed original releases with much appreciation and without a complaint if only they’d been available!

Maybe I am stupid or not a real fan - but I am really grateful for the ‘scraps’ and feel rather first class each time I listen to those great (and for me) highly anticipated CDs.

I’d also like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the creators of this page. The information provided here – especially the soundtrack analysis and chronological order - made me appreciate the music even more.

Thanks Jason, I actually popped the DVD in, and checked it out myself, the ‘Raiders Chords’ begin on 4:34 of ‘British Relief’. Well I’m certainly relieved! Still, a pity that we are missing the 26 seconds.

On the 4:34 mark of ‘British Relief’, you can here the chord that I think Williams actually intended to be synchronized with the March!

You could have mentioned that to me earlier though!

In his complete score analysis, when analysing the last track Finale and End Credits, here is what he wrote, but remember, I'm only talking about the orchestral murmur at the start, that should have appeared on disc 5. Watch the movie again – I expected you to know.

Finale and End Credits (8:51) The film version of this cue differs significantly from the album version. It begins with an expectant orchestral murmur as the group watches and waits for Indy to appear. He does so, the last of the Sankara stones clutched in his hand. The film segues to the trio's return to the native village, as the music segues into a formal presentation of Indy?s theme. As the "B" section of the march begins, the crowd of freed children follows on their heels, rushing to joyous reunions with their families. The cheering crowd surrounds our heroes.

A warm refrain of the children's theme is woven in as Indy presents the shaman with the last Sankara stone. This is followed by a tender statement of the love theme, as Willie comments on his generosity: he could have kept the stone; gotten his fortune and glory. "It'd just end up collecting dust in some museum," Indy reasons (a wry reference to the ending of the first film.) Their short verbal interplay leads to a romantic kiss, and the main theme wells up to lead us into the end credits.

The credits begin with a presentation of the Raiders march which has Short Round's theme intermixed. Secondly, the music cuts to an arrangement of material from "Slave Children's Crusade" and "Short Round's Theme." This is followed by a formal presentation of the love theme, and the credits wrap up with a final reprise of the Raiders march. The album version of this sequence includes the same themes, but placed in a different order and arrangement.

Jason LeBlanc, yor assumption is correct. However, a PM is a personal message and I don't really appriciate you broadcasting what I asked you in private over these message boards. And, no, I really don't see that as hypocritical because I like the release because it has more music clean and in good quality then we've had for years, but that doesn't mean I want to edit all together for a complete release. Besides, if you look back a couple posts of mine, you'll see that I did say that it would have been nice to have a complete release.

I suppose our/my experience of the films is very much linked to the way the music is used in the final cut, rather than the way it was recorded in the studio, so personally (and I accept not everyone will agree) I'd like the soundtracks released with the cues cut together and in the chronological order they appeared in the movies - but I suppose that may not actually be technically possible with the original tapes as they stand...

Remember, the Str Wars Anthology soundtracks came out in 1993 i think, which weren't complete but expanded from the original soundtracks, and then in 1997 all three soundtracks were rereleased and pretty much complete. so, it won't be another 25 years. I'd say until the next film comes out, whcih seems to be in the works.

Of course they are holding back so they have something to release to market the product again later on. That's pretty much standard practice. Release an abbreviated soundtrack when the movie is released, then release an expanded edition on an anniversary date, then release complete scores through limited pressings i.e. Film Score Monthly. You better believe Lucasfilm will revisit them again, the question is do we have to wait another 25 years for them. Some of us will either be too old, hard of hearing, or dead. Why not just release them so we still have some years to enjoy them?

I'll take second class consumer in exchange for the original, very much incomplete soundtracks we had for years. Enjoy the release for what it is. I've wanted a set like this as much as the next guy and, while a complete release for all of it would have been nice, I'm completely content.

Besides, put yourself in their position, business is business. We see the Indy films as treasures, Spielberg and Co. see the films as their artwork and job so it's a product and to always give everyone the whole complete product (.i.e. Complete scores on CD) right off the bat is, lets face it, not very good business because it limits the opportunity to revisit the products and make more money. Call it what you want- double dipping, milking it or whatever, but it's good business on the production side. The consumer doesn't have to buy it, though.

you know what the problem is with fanboys? no matter the fact that we have been asking for at least an expanded release of the first three Indy soundtracks and have finally got it, after 27-19 years later, the fanboys still have the nerve to complain about what's been left off. enjoy the release for what it is. it's a wonder concord even released it to such unappriciative people. I love the set and glad that i can finally listen to some of the cues without sound effects or bad quality after waiting all those years.

Its great, and the sound quality is superb, but I must admit it is frustrating not to have the 'full' scores...and whats the problem with putting the cues in the order they appeared in the movies? very frustrating. I have all the bootlegs so I guess with the help of the excellent listings on this website I'll just have to make my own versions of each films score... having an almost complete Temple soundtrack is great though!
